Glean is an enterprise AI coworker that connects your company’s apps and documents to help you search, ask questions, research, and create work with cited answers.
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Open Glean
Go to the Glean web application and open the sign-in page.
You can access Glean through your organization’s Glean URL or the Glean web app.
Step 2: Enter Your Work Email
Enter the work email address associated with your organization’s Glean workspace.
If your organization uses SSO, the sign-in process will continue through your organization’s identity provider.
Step 3: Complete Login
Follow your organization’s login or SSO instructions.
For administrators in Glean’s initial setup environment, Glean can use a single-use email magic link; regular end users may instead sign in through the organization’s activated SSO.
Step 4: Open Glean Chat
After signing in, open Chat to start using Glean’s AI assistant.
Glean recommends starting with a real task rather than simply entering a keyword.
Example prompt:
“Summarize the latest information about our marketing project and list the next steps.”
Step 5: Ask Glean a Question
Type your question into the Chat box and submit it.
Glean can search information available through your connected company sources and provide answers grounded in that information.
Step 6: Check the Citations
Review the citations attached to Glean’s answer.
Glean provides citations so you can open the underlying sources and verify important information.
Tip: For important business information, always check the original source before relying on the answer.
Step 7: Use Follow-Up Prompts
You don’t have to start a new conversation for every question. Continue the same chat with follow-up instructions.
For example:
First prompt:
“Summarize this project.”
Follow-up:
“Now turn the summary into a short team update.”
Glean’s official guide specifically recommends continuing the same task with additional context, constraints, or follow-up requests.
Step 8: Connect Your Work Apps
Go to Settings and connect the applications made available by your organization’s Glean administrator.
Depending on your organization, Glean can connect with services such as Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft applications, Salesforce, Jira, Confluence and other systems.
Important: Glean respects your existing permissions, so it only shows information you’re already allowed to access.
Step 9: Install the Browser Extension
You can install Glean’s browser extension to access Glean while browsing.
The extension supports Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Brave.
With the extension, you can access Glean from a browser sidebar and use Chat, Search, and other available features.
Step 10: Use Glean for Real Work
Once everything is configured, use Glean for tasks such as research, summaries, finding company information, drafting content, and discovering people or documents.
Try prompts such as:
- Research: “Give me a summary of our latest customer research.”
- Documents: “Find the documents related to Project X.”
- People: “Who owns this project?”
- Summary: “Summarize this document in five bullet points.”
- Writing: “Turn this information into an email for the team.”
- Planning: “Create a project plan based on these requirements.”
Glean can also provide deeper research, create content, and work through connected company information depending on what your organization has enabled.
